2017: 15 gyönyörű hely külföldön / 15 beautiful places abroad

2017-ben 46 külföldön töltött nap során 15 ország összesen 72 településére jutottam el, végigjártam 30 túraösvényt és meglátogattam 18 Világörökség-listás helyet. Ahogy a korábbi magyarországi válogatásnál, ezúttal is kronológiai sorrendben következzen tizenöt hely a kedvenceim közül:
During the 46 days I spent abroad in 2017, I made it to 72 settlements in 15 countries, walked along 30 nature trails and visited 18 World Heritage sites. As I did with my post of beautiful places in Hungary earlier, I'm following a chronological order to present 15 of my favorite places abroad from the past year:

LONDON (Egyesült Királyság / UK) - a Szent Pál tetején / atop St Paul's (február / February)
Londonba ezúttal elsősorban nem várost nézni, hanem utcai kajákat enni mentünk, erről írtam is már. Viszont a Szent Pál-székesegyház tetejéről azért klassz volt kiézni a City felhőkarcolóira ezen a napfényes februári délutánon.
This time our trip to London was mostly about street food, as I wrote in an earlier post, and less about the sights. However, it was still great to look out over the skyscrapers of the City from the dome of St Paul's on this splendid February afternoon.
Much of the Andalusian coast might be taken up by the resort towns of the Costa del Sol but there's a strictly protected area just east of Almería (Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata-Nijar), where the scenery looks like this.
Arrecife de las Sirenas, which translates as Mermaid's Reef
Wild, almost desert-like scenery, the deep blue sea and a lone church tower: this is my favorite spot around Cabo de Gata.
A fenti strand mellett húzódó út túloldalán lévő lagúnában flamingók pihentek.
Flamingos were resting in the lagoon on the other side of the road that runs parallel to the beach above.
Alhambra is a long-standing dream come true. From sunny and warm Cabo de Gata we arrived in mountainous Granada as a cold front was passing through, so we were greeted with chilly winds and 40 °F. It was quite the contrast but we also got this view of the Alhambra and the feeling that we would see this jewel of European Islamic architecture in all its splendor the following day.
Getting closer: we're now looking at the palaces of the Alhambra from the Generalife gardens.
Az Oroszlános udvar
The Court of the Lions
Elképesztő, miket tudtak kőböl faragni.
It's amazing what they carved out of stone.
SETENIL DE LAS BODEGAS (Spanyolország / Spain) - sziklák közt / among sheer cliffs (március / March)
A ragyogóan fehér andalúz falvak közül Setenil de las Bodegas volt a kedvencünk, a függőleges sziklafalba épített házaival.
With its houses built into the cliff, Setenil de las Bodegas was our favorite of the whitewashed Andalusian villages.
A legjellegzetesebb utca, mélyen a sziklába vájt házsorral.
The hallmark street of the village, with a row of buildings deep inside the rock wall.
MYRAFÄLLE (Ausztria / Austria) - Alpesi tájakon / a bit of Alpine scenery (április / April)
I was "complaining" in the previous post about how there are no big waterfalls in Hungary. Here I found a few: the picture shows just one of the many levels of Myrafälle.
A vízesésektől meredek, de viszonylag rövid kitérő vezet a Hausstein tetejére, ahonnan látni lehetett a Semmering havas csúcsait.
A short but steep detour from the falls brought us to the top of Hausstein, offering a view over the snow-capped peaks of the Semmering.
KOTOR (Montenegro) - az év csúcspontja / the highlight of the year (május / May)
Our first glance at the Bay of Kotor as we were descending along the steep curves from Lovcen NP. The whole of Montenegro was stunning as it was but this place is really incomparable.
For two days we were marveling at this bay in all ways. Here we're cruising to the town of Perast...
...and here we're looking toward Kotor on a tiny island known for the Madonna of the Rocks church.
Felmásztunk a Kotor városa felett álló várhoz is. Innen is gyönyörű az öböl.
We also climbed up to the castle rising above the town of Kotor and the view was once again stunning.
A végén pedig vacsoráztunk a tenger partján. Akárhonnan is néztük, a Kotori-öböl az egyik legszebb hely Európában.
We ended our visit with a seaside dinner. Wherever we looked upon it, we found that Kotor Bay is one of the most beautiful spots in Europe.
DURMITOR (Montenegro) - akár Alaszka is lehetne / it could be in Alaska too (május / May)
Montenegró szépségén túl a sokszínűsége is elképesztő: bár a területe alig ötöde Magyarországénak, mégis olyan különböző helyek vannak itt, mint a mediterrán Kotor és a Durmitor fenyőerdői és havas csúcsai.
In addition to its beauty, the diversity of Montenegro is also amazing: though it has just fifth of the area of Hungary, it's home to places as different as the mediterranean Kotor or the pine forests and snow-capped peaks of Durmitor.
Montenegró, helyi nyelven Crna Gora magyarul fekete hegyet jelent, de van nekik fekete tavuk is (Crno Jezero).
Montenegro, or Crna Gora as it's locally known, means black mountain. They also have a black lake (Crno Jezero).
BIOGRADSKA GORA (Montenegro) - medvehagymás réteken / on fields of wild garlic (május / May)
Montenegro once again: this was the only place during our trip with cold and damp weather but it just added to the charm of Biogradska Gora.
Épp virágzott a medvehagyma, úgyhogy fehérben ragyogott az egész erdő.
Wild garlic was in full bloom, turning the whole forest bright white.
DUBROVNIK (Horvátország / Croatia) - egy régi álom / a long-standing dream (május / May)
Just like the Alhambra, I wanted to see this city for a very long time. I knew it was expensive and touristy but it's also stunningly beautiful.
It's possible to walk around the entire old town atop the city walls, something we couldn't miss.
The elegant main street of the old town, Stradun, about two minutes before a massive storm hit.
PITIGLIANO (Olaszország / Italy) - micsoda fekvés / what a location (július / July)
Pitigliano talán a legkülönlegesebb fekvésű toszkán falu, amelyet még az etruszkok kezdtek kivájni a vulkáni sziklából.
Pitigliano has probably the most unique location of all Tuscan villages. It was the Etruscans who started carving it out of the volcanic rock.

We're increasingly looking for the lesser-known places in Italy but this time we made an exception, even though I'd been here before. However, last time I used the train between villages just like most other tourists, but now we walked along the trail from Vernazza to Corniglia.
Corniglia, a háttérben pedig Manarola
Corniglia in the foreground, Manarola in the background
Even in the height of summer, 90% of the people are concentrated around the train stations and the main streets of each village. We hardly met anyone on the walking trail but were treated to the greatest panoramic view.
TEMESVÁR (Románia / Romania) - egy nagyon kellemes meglepetés / a very pleasant surprise (szeptember / September)
A történelmi épületek és a román forradalom helyszínei miatt szerettem volna látni Temesvárt, de sokkal többet kaptam: egy látványosan szépülő, hangulatos, élettel teli európai várost.
I wanted to go to Timisoara for its historic buildings and the main locations of the Romanian revolution but got much more: an atmospheric and lively European city that is being continuously beautified.
The Google Street View pictures from just a few years before showed most downtown squares under reconstruction or full of parked cars. What we found now were pedestrianized streets and squares as well as a lot of cafés and restaurants with their outdoor terraces filled to capacity.
Apart from Italy, I think it is the Netherlands that has the most magnificent villages. Many look like they came straight out of a fairytale but Bourtange is one of the finest: the uniform brick houses, the canals and the wooden bridges, the windmills, the perfectly mowed lawns, the harmonious and well-kept streets and squares plus the peace and quiet.
The problem with Dutch villages is that, compared to them, even an Austrian village looks a little shabby, let alone a Hungarian one.
STADE (Németország / Germany) - a cuki jó szó rá / cute is the word for it (október / October)
Around 30 miles from Hamburg lies one of the smallest and least known Hanseatic towns: Stade. Almost every building survived WW2 unscathed and the medieval townscape is fully intact.
One of the restaurants had two loungers, known as Strandkorb, that are typical at Baltic beaches in Germany. It gave quite good protection from the wind so we could go for alfresco dining and beer even in late October.

SCHWERIN (Németország / Germany) - tavakkal ölelve / hugged by lakes (október / October)
Schwerin elegáns óvárosát gyakorlatilag minden oldalról tavak övezik, a város díszének számító kastély - ahol Mecklenburg-Vorpommern tartományi parlamentje székel - is egy szigeten áll.
The elegant old center of Schwerin is practically surrounded by lakes: the castle, regarded as the jewel of the town and occupied by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament, lies on an island too.
Not a bad view in the center of a state capital.
Boldog, utazási élményekben gazdag 2018-as évet kívánok mindenkinek!
I wish everyone a happy 2018 rich in travel experiences!
